Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) is an anti-racist early literacy organization providing Black and Latinx children with the high quality education they deserve. CLI envisions a nation where every child has the power of literacy and the opportunity for lifetime success. Founded in Philadelphia in 1988m CLI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit responding to America’s poor literacy rates by increasing the number of highly-skilled prekindergarten through 5th grade teachers who can help Black and Latinx students read proficiently in high-need schools. CLI works virtually or in-person to:
Learning to read is a strong predictor of a student’s future academic achievement. A teacher’s literacy instruction plays the most critical role in a student’s reading development, but many teachers fail to receive adequate training in this area. By helping educators learn high-impact instructional strategies and nurturing dynamic professional learning communities, CLI builds lasting capacity in teachers and principals over time.
At CLI, we work to close the literacy opportunity gap between children Black and Latinx attending underfunded schools in low-income neighborhoods and their peers who grow up in more affluent settings and attend better-resourced schools. We know that access to quality literacy instruction is transformative, both in the arch of an individual’s life and in the strength of their surrounding community.
Learning to read is a strong predictor of a student’s future academic achievement. Equipped with the power of literacy, our early learners can open doors to a brighter future where they can pursue their dreams and better their community.
By supporting Children’s Literacy Initiative, you are championing social justice and helping ensure that all children get the resources and instructional support they need to learn to read. You are making an investment in public education and helping us ensure that classrooms, whether physical or virtual, support current and future generations so they have a better chance to thrive and reach their full potential.
Our work helps ensure that teachers are better prepared to teach and classrooms have books that reflect the lives of their students. CLI views education as a critical tool for systemic change supporting racial equality, educational equity and social justice.

Impact Statements:
Habitat for Humanity’s roots began on a rural farm in Georgia in 1942 with the vision to share equal land ownership with families of color. This was a radical idea in the south, but racial desegregation and housing equality was a value build into the Habitat modal. Since then, we have has the opportunity to work with families and volunteers worldwide and have become the global leader in affordable housing.
Habitat works in every U.S. ZIP code and in 70 countries globally. Through our work we have helped transform the lives of more than 35 million people since 1976, with 6 million people helped in FY2020 alone.
Due to our long history, a few misconceptions about our work have evolved over the year with one of the largest being that we give away homes. In fact, we work with families to build no-interest affordable housing that they work with their community to build themselves by putting in “sweat equity” as a down payment. Through this and homeowner education courses we ensure that families are building self-reliance and now have the ability to build generational wealth.
We would not be able to continue supporting homeowners attain a self, decent and affordable place to call home
Without your support. We are grateful to be able to partner with eClincialWorks during the Education Expo and are thankful for your individual support of our mission of making a world where everyone can attain an affordable home.
